madagascar reef conservation
Hi My name is chris, I am involved in a voluntry trip with ''frontier'' ( www.frontier.ac.uk ) to madagascar in order to carry out extensive reaserch on the northern reefs, this reaserch will be used to keep track of the local marine species and help protect the reefs from being over fished by local fishermen. The results from these investigations will supply vital information on the Madagascan coastline, to enable the sustainable management of natural resources in the region and the protection of the marine wildlife. Protection of these reefs will have a huge effect on the island helping to attract a larger tourist economy! Whilst there all food and provisions will be bought from local traders, helping to boost the local economy - even though buying food everyday may not seem like a huge boost to the local economy please try to consider that madagascar is one of the poorest countrys in the world with an annual GNP of only $800 ! All money collected will go towards flights, provisions and equipment - frontier is a NON profit organisation. Thank you and please try to remember what life would be like for you if you only had an annual income of around $800 ! |
